AESA–Taylor & Francis Outstanding Graduate Research Award

The American Educational Studies Association with Taylor & Francis
publishers is pleased to announce the AESA–Taylor & Francis
Outstanding Graduate Research Award. This award is intended to
recognize emerging scholars in the broad field of educational studies
by supporting advanced graduate students in their dissertation writing
and professional development.

Four (4) awards will be announced. Each award includes:

1)  $500 stipend for attendance at the AESA annual meeting

2)  Mentoring meeting with AESA leadership and senior scholars

Eligibility: Candidates must:
o Be AESA members in good standing
o Be advanced doctoral students who are ABD or at the dissertation
writing stage addressing any topic in educational studies and from any
theoretical, disciplinary and
interdisciplinary perspectives
o Have a paper proposal accepted to AESA as an individual or symposium
paper submission

Application Procedure: Applicants should submit the following materials:
o 2-page abbreviated curriculum vita with contact information
o Dissertation narrative – no more than 500 words
o AESA paper or symposium proposal and letter of acceptance to present
at the annual meeting.
o Letter of recommendation from dissertation advisor

Please submit all materials as one PDF file to Daniella Cook,
daniella.cook@sc.edu with the subject line heading, AESA Graduate
Award. Letter writers may submit their letters directly to Dr. Cook.

Selection Process

The Graduate Student Coordinator will administer the application
process, and in coordination with the Past President and an additional
AESA member will select the award recipients. Applications will be
evaluated on the following criteria:

o Overall Contribution: The applicant’s research and scholarship has
potential to contribute to the broad area of educational studies.

o Level of Analysis: Rigorous analysis as evidenced from the depth of
insight with relevant examples from the literature. There are clear
linkages between the information and the question/topic under
consideration.

o Innovativeness: Research and scholarship has the potential to
introduce and/or promote the development of new ideas, practices,
and/or methods.

o Technical Quality: The ideas addressing theory, practices, and/or
methods are clear.

Time Line

Applications DUE no later than August 9, 2013.

Awardees will be notified by September 1.

Certificate and check will be awarded at the AESA Business Meeting.
