We are currently seeking an instructor for our Spanish Pre-K Enrichment Program. The program runs from 1:45 until 3:15 Mon through Fri, at a pay rate of $25/hr.

The instructor will be using the HILO Curriculum (Harmonious Intervention through Language Opportunities) to teach Spanish through songs, games, literature, and other activities on an AISD campus. Materials and curriculum are provided. Campus to be determined.

The ideal candidate will have a background in Education and/or working with children, and a strong command of the Spanish language.

The Multilingual Multicultural Studies unit within the Department of Teaching and Learning at New York University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in TESOL/Bilingual/Foreign Language Education. The position begins September 1, 2016. 

The Department of Teaching and Learning at NYU prepares teachers for urban schools in a wide range of subject areas, as well as offering professional, post-certification master’s degrees for practicing teachers and preparing doctoral students to become educational researchers and teacher educators. Qualifications

The successful applicant will have an earned doctorate in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, Bilingual Education, Foreign Language Education, or a related field, along with some experience teaching pre-service and/or in-service teachers at the undergraduate or graduate levels.  We are seeking applicants whose scholarship contributes to the teaching and learning of English language learners in schools in one or more of the following areas: language and content learning, academic language development, bilingual/dual language education. Priority will be given to candidates with a record of publications and evidence of a systematic program of research as well as success in, and/or strong potential for, securing external funding. Advanced skills in using educational technology for language teaching are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Engage in research, writing, and other scholarly activities;
• Teach a range of  courses in the areas of second/foreign language theory, practice, and research;
• Contribute to program development; advise graduate and undergraduate students;
• Teach doctoral courses in area of expertise or Teaching and Learning generally; serve on doctoral dissertation committees;
• Pursue individually or with others external funding for research, curriculum development, teacher education initiatives, and/or program evaluation;
• Contribute to the further development of the department, its programs, and specializations within the Multilingual Multicultural Studies unit; and
• Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and provide service, outreach, and leadership to the department, university, educational institutions, agencies, and professional organizations.

Autoridades informaron que el crimen ocurrió en aldea Santa Avelina, del referido municipio, donde individuos atacaron con machete a Sajic Córdova, quien también fue testigo en el juicio de genocidio contra el general Efraín Ríos Montt.

Concepción Santay, alcalde indígena de San Juan Cotzal, fue quien confirmó la muerte de la víctima, quien salió el jueves con rumbo a Nebaj, ya que también pertenecía a un comité de víctimas del conflicto armado interno.

“Lamentamos la horrenda muerte que le dieron a Sebastián Sajic, miembro del Consejo de Principales de  Autoridades Ancestrales de Cotzal.  Él pasó la noche en la aldea Santa Avelina y a eso de las  5 horas se dirigía a  la comunidad San Antonio Tisach, pero nunca llegó, porque desconocidos le interceptaron el paso y lo mataron”, manifestó Santay.

Personal de la Fiscalía Municipal del Ministerio Público de Nebaj llegó al lugar del crimen, lo que fue aprovechado por los líderes indígenas para pedir que se haga una exhaustiva investigación y castigar a los responsables del crimen.

"Sabemos que en días anteriores, personas a quienes estamos investigando habrían amenazado de muerte a Sajic, y si llegamos a descubrir la identidad del o los responsables, los entregaremos a las autoridades competentes", enfatizó  Santay.

ONU se pronuncia

La Oficina del Alto Comisionado de las Naciones Unidas para los Derechos Humanos (OACNUDH) condenó la muerte de Sajic Córdova e hizo un llamado a las autoridades para que "mediante investigaciones prontas, exhaustivas y eficaces se identifique, juzgue y sancione a los responsables de este hecho".

También llamó al Estado a adoptar las medidas necesarias para garantizar la seguridad e integridad de las autoridades indígenas de la Alcaldía Ixil, por la importancia de su función en el mantenimiento de la cohesión social, así como en el ejercicio de la autonomía y la libre determinación de los pueblos indígenas.

Ithaca College’s Department of Education invites applicants for a tenure-eligible Assistant Professor position for a teacher educator with a specialty in social foundations of education and early field experience to join a collaborative, growing department beginning August 16, 2016.  The position involves teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in social foundations of education; teaching courses in areas such as methods or field-based seminars appropriate for the candidate’s expertise and the department’s needs; designing and supervising educational field experiences; collaborating with partnership schools in the Ithaca area and in New York City; conducting and publishing research; and participating in service to the department, campus, community, and profession. We seek a creative colleague with a deep commitment to diversity, equity, and innovative practice in education, consistent with our department's mission.

Fiesta de el Grito de Independencia, is a musical celebration and historical re-enactment of Mexico's call for independence from Spain.  The event takes place each year on the South Steps of the State Capitol. The Fiesta is sponsored by the Fiesta de Independencia Foundation, the Consul General of Mexico, the City of Austin, Univision, the State Preservation Board, and the Mexican American Legislative Caucus. 

In 2013, the Fiesta de el Grito was relocated to the grounds of the State Capitol and taken to a historic level of participation, with Univision providing programming support and additional resources.

This family oriented celebration is alcohol free. Special programming features include Mexican and Tejano music, Folklorico Dancers, and food vendor booths. The highlight of the evening is the re-enactment of “El Grito”, by the Consul General of Mexico.

 Last year's event at the State Capitol drew a crowd of over 10,000. This free event is made possible by sponsorships from corporations and individuals. In addition to paying for the costs of the event, a portion of the funds raised are earmarked to pay for college scholarships.

The School of Education (SOE) in the College of Human Sciences at Iowa State University invites applications for a senior faculty member to hold the position of Associate Director of the School of Education with a negotiable but no later than start date of August 16, 2016. The Associate Director will play a critical role in guiding and supporting the University’s vision to be a leading U.S. educator preparation institution. Associate Director responsibilities:
● Coordinate University Educator Preparation programs, lead the university-wide Educator Preparation Coordinating Council, facilitate the educator preparation program’s continuous improvement processes, and oversee accreditation initiatives and processes.
● Collaborate with faculty and staff in the educator preparation programs to articulate and enact an integrated, ambitious vision of research-based educator preparation programs that will prepare professionals to work in an increasingly diverse society.
● Foster partnerships with students, faculty and staff within the university; with other educator preparation programs in the state; and with educational policymakers and community leaders.
● Communicate, collaborate, and coordinate with other Regents Institutions on educator preparation issues.
● Contribute as a faculty member in the University’s graduate and undergraduate educator certification programs, and masters/doctoral level programs.
● Collaborate with the Deans of the Colleges of Human Sciences, Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Agriculture and Life Sciences, the Director of the School of Education, the Director of Teacher Education Services, members of the teacher and administrator education faculty and staff, and other interested faculty and community leaders to envision, design, develop and deliver educator preparation programs.
In addition:
● Coordinate and, where appropriate participate, in a research program to study the preparation of PK-12 teachers and administrators and their relationships with students, parents, and communities;
● Support program offerings, field experiences, and internships that are embedded in substantive community engagement and renewal of both the University and partner school districts;
● Collaborate with teacher and administrator education faculty and staff to foster coherence and alignment between coursework and field experiences;
● Foster community relationships to create additional opportunities for students to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to work with students with diverse linguistic, cultural, socioeconomic, ethnic, and racial backgrounds;
● Enhance student recruitment and retention efforts in support of increasing the number of students from traditionally under-represented groups in educator preparation programs.
The successful candidate will have a record of excellence in research, teaching, and grant acquisition and demonstrated commitment to equitable educational access and opportunity for all students.

The Department of Education at the University of California, Los Angeles announces an opening for a tenure-track faculty member in teacher education. UCLA’s Teacher Education Program is part of Center X: Where Research and Practice Intersect for Urban School Professionals, which brings together faculty and staff to work with communities to support learning and the transformation of public schooling through work with teachers, administrators, and students. The program focuses on preparing teachers to teach for social justice in urban Los Angeles schools. The faculty member will teach both in the Center X Teacher Education Masters’ program, in the doctoral program and advise Ph.D. students in the areas most pertinent to teacher education and the context of urban teaching.

We are seeking applicants for an assistant professor whose research and teaching interests lie in the initial preparation of teachers working in diverse urban schools. The department is particularly interested in and values candidates with professional and scholarly experience working in settings with students from diverse backgrounds, underrepresented minorities, and who have a demonstrated commitment to improving teacher education.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Earned doctorate, with a specialization in Teacher Education or a related field; teaching experience in urban, public K-12 schools or other settings working with underserved communities; a record of research and scholarly publications (particularly in teacher education) commensurate with appointment level; ability to teach and advise students at the graduate level in both Masters and PhD programs; a strong commitment to teacher education, social justice, and educational equity for students in urban schools; and, a willingness to generate extramural funding for research.

Faculty must create and pursue a research agenda focused on teacher education practice in ways that prepare teachers for diverse urban schools. Of particular interest is a scholar who creates and studies innovation in teacher education and the impact of innovation on the quality of urban teachers, including, for instance, the study of novel approaches to content methods, field work, foundation courses, university-community partnerships, and so on. Of additional importance is expertise and experience in studying and addressing how intersections of race, class, sexuality, immigration, language, and access to resources affect learning in urban communities.
