Have research on current events? Submit to AAA 2016!

AAA is accepting a limited number of late-breaking sessions for the 2016 Annual Meeting that are topical, timely, and especially relevant to current events.
Late-breaking abstracts will be accepted for individual presentations or for highly coherent organized panels with up to 7 individual presenters, panels include a 500 word abstract, and oral sessions include up to 7 (seven) 250-word abstracts for each presenter. Session organizers must choose their preferred format (paper or roundtable) at the time of submission; this cannot be changed after the review committee has reached its decision.
Abstracts are considered "late-breaking" if the submission meets the following criteria:
  • The topic must be directly relevant to current events. Examples of topical focus areas include race and identity, politics, migration, police brutality and public safety, global health, and looting/cultural heritage protection.
  • Presentations must offer findings that were not available until after the April 15, 2016 submission deadline.
  • Applicants may submit late-breaking abstracts even if they have had another abstract accepted for presentation, but abstracts submitted prior to the submission deadline may not be resubmitted.
All late-breaking abstracts must be accompanied by a 250 word statement from the organizer(s) explaining the topic’s timeliness and relevance to anthropologists.
Organizers and presenters must be AAA members and registered for the Annual Meeting at the time of submission in order to be eligible for consideration. Non-member guests may be permitted to present under compelling circumstances.

Timeline

The late-breaking abstract submission is now open and closes at 5:30 p.m. ET on September 16. Log in to www.americananthro.org/AMPortal2016, click on start new proposal, and select Late Breaking Session on the upper right hand corner.

Late-breaking sessions will be scheduled on either Thursday, November 17 or Friday, November 18. AAA Staff will do their best to ensure that there are no scheduling conflicts for the new sessions.
Final selection of late-breaking abstracts will be done by members of the Executive Program Committee, Executive Director, and Director of Communications and Public Affairs. Submitters will be notified via email of the status of their abstracts.

If you have any questions about the submission site or late-breaking sessions, please email aaameetings@americananthro.org.
