Wichita State University, Associate or full Professor Position in Latinx Studies

Wichita State University
Associate or full Professor Position in Latinx Studies
In order to better serve its growing population of Latinx students, Wichita State University seeks to hire a senior faculty member to lead development of Latinx Studies at the university. This senior faculty member will work with academic leadership, including the President, Provost, Vice President for Diversity, and deans, to coordinate campus-wide Latinx initiatives, including the recruitment and hiring of a faculty cluster hire in Latinx studies.
We plan to hire 4-5 new faculty members and one staff person whose expertise in Latinx (Latino/Latina) studies would be combined with proficiency in online learning and/or university and community outreach (experiential/service learning, etc.).
The first step in the process of creating this transformative cluster will be the hiring of a senior faculty member to oversee and direct growth in Latinx-related programs. The successful candidate will have tenure at the rank of associate or full professor (depending on experience) in a humanities or social science department in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences or in the Counseling, Educational Leadership, and School Psychology Department and the School of Education in the College of Applied Learning.
We seek a dynamic and visionary leader who can not only build new curricular programs, but also provide effective and nurturing leadership and support to the junior faculty in the cluster. The successful candidate will have a substantial record of publications in Latinx studies or in Latinx-related topics, extensive experience teaching and mentoring both undergraduate and graduate students, and significant experience with curriculum or program building or other relevant administrative experience. This faculty member will lead recruitment and hiring efforts for the rest of the cluster during the 2019-2020 academic year and shape new curriculum and programs that grow out of the faculty cluster.
Wichita State University enrolls over 15,000 students, approximately 11% of whom are Latinx. Latinx student organizations on campus include HALO (Hispanic American Leadership Organization), Sigma Lambda Beta, Lambda Pi Upsilon, and Kappa Delta Chi, as well as Hispanic-related groups such as SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers) and Sigma Delta Pi (Spanish Honors Society). Wichita State is located in Sedgwick County, where 13% of the population is Hispanic, and the city of Wichita has an active and growing Latino/Latina community. Some cities in western Kansas are over 50% Hispanic. Local organizations such as the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Kansas Hispanic Education and Development Foundation routinely work closely with WSU.
The deadline for application materials, consisting of a cover letter, CV (with references), statement of leadership philosophy, and samples of scholarly work in Latinx studies is Friday, January 25, 2019. Candidates must apply online and submit materials at http://jobs.wichita.edu.
Salary is competitive. Offers of employment are contingent upon completion of background checks as required by the Kansas Board of Regents.
