Instruction/Bilingual Education, Assistant Professor, Tenure-track
Position: The Department of
Teacher Education and Administration invites applications for a tenure-track
Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2018. Summer teaching is contingent on
student demand and funding. The successful candidate will join a dedicated
Curriculum & Instruction/Bilingual Education faculty, with initial teacher
certification programs in grades EC-12, an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction,
and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction.
Rank/Salary: Assistant
Professor, tenure-track. Salary is competitive, commensurate with experience
and background.
Responsibilities: The
successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the continued
development and success of the department through research, teaching, service,
and mentoring of students. As a tenure-track member of the faculty, candidates
will be expected to develop a record of scholarly research necessary to obtain
tenure. In addition, candidates will be
expected to engage in teaching and to contribute service to the department,
College of Education, and the University of North Texas. Instructional roles include (a) teaching
undergraduate and graduate courses leading to teacher certification in grades
EC-12 and (b) teaching graduate courses in Curriculum &
Instruction/Bilingual Education (and/or an appropriate academic teaching field)
at the masters and doctoral levels. The
successful candidate will also be expected to develop or continue an ongoing
research agenda in an area of specialization, including regular publications in
quality outlets, professional presentations, and submission of external grant
proposals. Service on dissertation committees, including the chairing of
dissertations, is expected.
Qualifications: Minimum
qualifications include an earned doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction,
Bilingual Education, or related field. Also
required is teaching experience in grades EC-12 and at least 12 semester hours
of graduate coursework in Bilingual Education.
Preference will be given to candidates who can teach in Spanish and who
have teaching experience in higher education and in EC-12 settings with diverse
student populations, especially bilingual students. Preference will also be given to those who have
a sub-specialization or research interest in an academic subject/teaching field. ABD candidates will be considered as long as
the doctorate is successfully defended prior to the start date.
