CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
The LES: Bilingualism and Biliteracy Ph.D. specialization promotes the view that language and literacy must be examined within the cultural contexts and social situations in which they occur. LES: Bilingualism and Biliteracy PhD students will have the unique opportunity to collaboratewith acclaimed and productive faculty mentors to generate high quality, interdisciplinary research focusing on:
o Childhood bilingual and biliteracy development in schools and communities
o Bilingual and immigrant education
o Culturally- and linguistically-sustaining pedagogies in bilingual and general education classrooms
o Linguistic, cognitive, and sociocultural aspects of bilingual language and literacy development
o Local and global perspectives on preK-12 bilingual education policy and practice
Graduate Research Assistantships are available for new, full-time graduate students who show promise of making significant contributions to the field of bilingualism and biliteracy development in preK-12 Latino/a student populations. These competitive assistantships include tuition, fees, and a generous stipend. Candidates who bring to their studies a background in working with preK-12 Latino/a populations will be given special consideration.
